How the Top 1% Use AI to Get Smarter
Most people make the mistake of using AI to do their thinking for them, which leads to intellectual atrophy. Instead, the top 1% use AI as a tool to train their brains and outsmart situations.
The video outlines a four-step framework for using AI to become "dangerously intelligent":
Intelligent Laziness (The DRAG Framework): Differentiate between "Zone 1" tasks (low payoff, e.g., emails, formatting) and "Zone 2" tasks (high payoff/obsession). Outsource Zone 1 tasks using the DRAG framework:
Drafting (getting past the blank page)
Research (using AI to consolidate and summarize information)
Analysis (finding patterns in unstructured data)
Grunt work (formatting, data cleaning)
The Intelligent Hill: Move beyond basic, "zero-shot" prompting. Treat AI as a probability engine rather than a calculator. Progress through "camps" of sophistication:
One-shot: Provide one example.
Few-shot: Provide multiple examples to ground the model.
Chain of Thought: Ask AI to show its work and think step-by-step.
Agents: Delegate multi-step complex tasks to AI agents.
The Intelligent Gym: Do not use AI to remove all friction, as resistance is required for growth. Treat AI as a "spotter"—use it to help you learn, quiz yourself, and apply progressive overload to your knowledge, starting from beginner concepts and moving to expert-level challenges.
The Intelligent Fool: Adopt a "learn-it-all" mindset rather than a "know-it-all" one. Use AI as a judgment-free space to ask "stupid" questions about things you don't understand. Embracing the discomfort of being a beginner is essential to true mastery.
